De Roma cultuur en traditie staat centraal op dit minifestival met een workshop zang en dans, een spectaculair optreden voor Nadara Gypsy Wedding Band en een minimarkt met artikelen en eten in de geest van de Roma tradities.

18:30-19:30: Workshop Roma dans

Alexandra Beaujard (Alex) en Sarah Louisa geven een workshop Roma dans. Er wordt in deze vorm (hammala) van de gypsy dans veel gebruik gemaakt van heup- en buikbewegingen en draaien. Breng je dansrok mee!

20:15 uur: Nadara Gypsy Wedding Band

Nadara Gypsy Wedding Band brengt melancholische en virtuoze oriëntaalse dansmuziek uit het Zwarte Zee gebied (Turks-Roemeens-Grieks) naar Theater De Vaillant. De band speelt eigen composities en muziek uit de Roma traditie.

Het repertoire is authentiek en rauw. Nadara speelt vooral eigen dans-arrangementen.

De bandleidster Alexandra zingt vooral in het Romani. Met haar medespelers (op viool, saxofoon, drum/slagwerk, basgitaar en accordeon) staat ze garant voor een spectaculair muzikaal dansfeest. Alexandra Beaujard (Alex) komt vanuit de Frans georiënteerde accordeonmuziek en Tocila vanuit de Hongaars-Roemeense bruiloftsmuziek; samen zijn zij al 20jaar de kern van Nadara Gypsy Wedding Band. Na 4 jaar komen de 6 Roma-muzikanten terug naar Nederland. In de afgelopen jaren is het repertoire sterk uitgebreid met Turkse en Griekse (zigeuner)-invloeden. Deze muziek-rotonde van oriëntaalse muziek, met afslagen naar Zwarte Zee, Balkan en Transsylvanië, maakt dat Nadara in juni met een sterk dans-concert komt.

Het frisse speelplezier spat ervan af als de danseressen, Sarah-Louisa plus de muzikanten op het podium elkaar uitdagen. Czárdás (Hongaarse dans), Roemeense HORA-dans en de oriëntaalse zigeuner/buikdans worden afgewisseld in Theater De Vaillant – Den Haag.

Minimarkt

Daarnaast is er in het theatercafé een minimarkt met kraampjes waar je artikelen kunt kopen. Met kunstenares Josephine de Roode Weiss, Aysha’s Feathers, Anjana ArteSana, Pippa Pinuppins, Imkerij Dharma Nectar, Alisa Cuuna met haar Roma-kinderboek Naan en de wonderlijke schoolreis  en bij moeder Zimrita kun je wat lekkers eten kopen uit de Roma traditie, Peter Jorna brengt zijn eigen tas met Gypsy platen en cd’s mee, bemachtig een uniek exemplaar.

Roma culture and tradition take center stage at this mini-festival, featuring a singing and dance workshop, a spectacular performance by Nadara Gypsy Wedding Band, and a small market with items and food inspired by Roma traditions.

18:30–19:30: Roma Dance Workshop

Alexandra Beaujard (Alex) and Sarah Louisa will lead a Roma dance workshop. This style of Gypsy dance (hammala) makes extensive use of hip and belly movements, as well as spinning. Bring your dance skirt!

20:15: Nadara Gypsy Wedding Band

Nadara Gypsy Wedding Band brings melancholic and virtuosic Oriental dance music from the Black Sea region (Turkish-Romanian-Greek) to Theater De Vaillant. The band performs original compositions as well as music from the Roma tradition.

Their repertoire is authentic and raw. Nadara primarily performs their own dance arrangements.

Band leader Alexandra sings mainly in Romani language. Together with her fellow musicians (on violin, saxophone, drums/percussion, bass guitar, and accordion), she guarantees a spectacular musical dance celebration.

Alexandra Beaujard (Alex) comes from a background in French-oriented accordion music, while Tocila comes from Hungarian-Romanian wedding music; together they have been the core of Nadara Gypsy Wedding Band for 20 years.

After four years, the six Roma musicians are returning to the Netherlands. In recent years, their repertoire has expanded significantly with Turkish and Greek (Gypsy) influences. This “musical roundabout” of Oriental music—with routes leading toward the Black Sea, the Balkans, and Transylvania—means Nadara will present a powerful dance concert in June.

Their fresh joy in performing bursts off the stage as the dancers, Sarah-Louisa, and the musicians challenge one another. Czárdás (a Hungarian dance), the Romanian Hora dance, and Oriental Gypsy/belly dance alternate throughout the evening at Theater De Vaillant in The Hague.

In addition, there will be a mini market in the theater café with stalls where you can buy various items.

Featured vendors include artist Josephine de Roode Weiss, Aysha’s Feathers, Anjana ArteSana, Pippa Pinuppins, Imkerij Dharma Nectar, and Alisa Cuuna with her Roma children’s book Naan en de wonderlijke schoolreis (Naan and the Wonderful School Trip).

At Mother Zimrita’s stall, you can buy delicious food inspired by Roma traditions.

Peter Jorna will also bring his own bag filled with Gypsy vinyl records and CDs—your chance to get a unique copy.
